WHY LA LUZ?
La Luz is a belief that learning should return to the community! Middle school is an antiquated and harrowing experience that very few adults would ever sign up for and instead of just telling students to hang in there for three years,...three long years, we believe we can do better. We believe actual learning happens through authentic, hands-on experiences and yes, we believe true learning is FUN! While this is an old idea, we believe this is the future of education.
HOW ARE WE DIFFERENT?
We know learning can and should happen anywhere and at anytime, not just in a classroom! So, we are living it. Everyday, we leave "Base Camp" at Newlon Elementary, hop in our vans, and spend time with amazing community partners (Denver Zoo, History Colorado, CSU Spur, Always Choose Adventure to name a few). Additionally, we just love Forest School and are stoked that our students will spend 25% of their school year outdoors.
COMMUNITY BUILT
Today, a significant portion of our effort is dedicated to collaborating with community partners and businesses to advance the cause of holistic youth education throughout our community. We are not only pushing schools to think differently about educating kids, we are working with our community to be part of the solution. We are laying the groundwork for schools and districts to have other options!
